WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT (May 26, 2026) – The Special Needs Support Center (SNSC) is proud to announce that Northern Stage has signed the Disability-Friendly Pledge through SNSC’s Enabled Upper Valley program. The pledge was signed on May 6, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., marking a meaningful step in Northern Stage’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and belonging in the Upper Valley community.
Enabled Upper Valley is SNSC’s disability-friendly certification program that supports businesses and organizations in strengthening both physical and social accessibility. Through a clear, supportive process, SNSC helps participating organizations identify barriers and implement practical improvements so more people can feel welcomed and fully participate in community life.
“Enabled Upper Valley is about turning values into everyday practices that help people feel respected, supported, and included,” said Dr. Kendra LaRoche, Executive Director of the Special Needs Support Center. “Northern Stage’s commitment reflects the kind of leadership that strengthens belonging in our community.”
Examples of disability-friendly practices and accommodations may include sensory supports such as noise-canceling headphones, clearer communication tools such as visual signage or easy-to-read materials, and staff training that builds confidence, understanding, and respect.
“Accessibility is core to Northern Stage’s mission of creating a welcoming and inclusive theater experience for all members of our community. We’re honored to become an Enabled Upper Valley Certified partner and grateful for the work SNSC is doing to help make the Upper Valley more accessible for everyone,” Jason Smoller, Managing Director of Northern Stage.
